Project 1: Bjerring Tournaments

December 26th, 2024

I have loved the game of Volleyball for most of my work career and I am working on creating spreadsheets which will help me as a coach, to quickly determine from a group of players in various game situations, 2v2 or 3v3 which players have the most impact when working in various combinations.

I have found any type of mini-tournament (2v2, 3v3 or 4v4) players simply can’t help themselves but be excited and be engaged during practice time.

In a Bjerring Doubles Tournament every player plays with each of the other players during the tournament. For example if you have 4 players, player 1 will play a game with players 2, 3 and 4. When all players have played each other the tournament is complete. You can find formats for quite a few different numbers to players

The good news is that many of the schedules for these tournaments have been laid out for us and we just have to plug in our players names and read the schedule from there. Then record the scores for each game and use the templates to rank player performance.

Here are some useful sites with more details on the Bjerring tournament formats:

So with that in mind, I wanted to create a spreadsheet which will enable a coach to enter players names and then a schedule of games would be created, then the coach would enter the scores for the games and players points earned would be tabulated and they would then be ranked for their success in the tournament.

… I will post my first template Thursday evening …

Intro for go Sheets Go

December 31st, 2022

My plan has changed repeatedly since I first created this website. I feel like a beginning middle range spreadsheet user (so pretty much a neophyte) who can show those getting started ways in which a spreadsheet can help solve problems and analyze data for their use as a teacher, coach or traveler. Using a spreadsheet is a great option for many tasks and since Google Sheets is easy to access, easy to use and easy to share, it is has become my spreadsheet of choice. Many of the approaches/solutions will work in most spreadsheet software or they will have a similar approach

This site will essentially be a blog, sharing in progress projects which I am working on and striving to finish. Some posts will appear semi-finished and will remain so until they are complete.

“Striving to finish” means I am searching and trying to learn from the web/YouTube how to do the next step in my project. I will do my best to link and credit those sites for their inspiration/information, and this should enable you to maybe find another great source for help or dig deeper into a technique or approach to a problem.

Finally, my plan is to keep posts brief and focussed.
